about

A new excavation from the analog archives. "The Tirehouse Tapes" finds our hero hunched over in solo mode, playing remarkable non-music seemingly without any instruments at all! Transportive tape hiss tapestries and rumbling mechanical collapse, dry heat homestead tunes for long delayed synapse stimulation.

These intimate and challenging recordings from Dain Daller were originally released by Lighten Up Sounds as a limited edition cassette in 2011. Finally these ethereal episodes of confusing plunder phonics, empty spool hum and thumping machines have been carefully remastered and have been thrust into the sprawling digital sphere.

DD was part of the Chicago based electro-acoustic group TINY MUSIC, who released a few great cassettes of epic mechanical sound on labels like Notice Recordings and Nihilist Records, as well as several self-released full length collections of smoking analog fuselage. These days Dain has been keeping himself busy out in the desert of rural New Mexico building an Earthship home out of recycled automobile tires. "The Tirehouse Tapes" presents snippets of crackling vinyl and magnetic crumble, radio static, air compressor, or whatever else got dragged in from the tool shed. Occasionally rhythmic, but proudly abrasive and atonal, perhaps a hint of garden hose or running motor?

Initially released a full decade ago as LUS-040, and never made properly available on the digital format, this offering has been sourced from the original master recordings, rescued from eternal oblivion as part of our ongoing series of obscure analog excavations from the early days of the label catalog. A special thanks to the artist for their assistance in preserving these rare recordings to be presented here.
